Tennis Victoria Junior Pennant 2010

The Junior Pennant competition is run by Tennis Victoria from August to November each year.  It is a Sunday morning competition played between associations, and all players from the BDTA are invited to register

to participate.  The standard is high and not all players who nominate will be selected to represent the BDTA.

Tennis Victoria Inter-Association Tournaments 2010

Tennis Victoria runs 4 tournaments during the year at which the BDTA can compete as an association.  These are:

The age groupings are at December 31, 2010, e.g. to be eligible for the Alicia Molik Cup, you must be 12 or under at the end of 2010.

As the teams consist of only a small number of players, selection is made from all current BDTA players primarily on the section played in and results, and then on results in the Junior Pennant competition in 2009.  If several players of similar standard are available, a trial may be arranged to assist selection.

The competitions usually consist of 16 association teams in four groups; each team plays the other 3 teams in their group, with each match consisting of four singles and two doubles sets.  The top team in each group then plays off against the top teams from the other 3 groups for positions 1 to 4; the second team in each group plays off for positions 5-8, etc.  The round-robin matches are usually on the first day, and the play-offs on the second day.

Vic Junior Pennant 2009 wrap:

Two of our Junior Pennant Teams made the finals on November 22, 2009: the Girls 14A team (Jaide Collins, Kristen McSweeney, Rebecca Tyler, Alexandra Josic and Tijana Praporski) and the Boys 12B team (Joshua Cheah, Brandon White, Codey Gunn, Christopher Cox and Henry Leighton).  
Unfortunately, due to the heavy rain on the weekend, no matches were able to be played, and the teams on top of each section were declared the winners.  

This meant that the girls team were the winners, and the boys team were runners-up.  
Both teams are to be congratulated for getting to the final, which is a significant achievement.  
The girls team beat the top team in their section in the last week to go to the top of the ladder, and the boys team beat the top team in Round 9 and were looking forward to playing them again in the final.  

The BDTA will be entering teams in the Junior Pennant competition again in 2010; check this website for information from April.”
